Ricoh endorses the “Business Ambition for 1.5°C” campaign
Promoting climate change initiatives with long-term vision and clear goals
TOKYO, October 2, 2020 – Ricoh Company, Ltd. announces that it has endorsed the “Business Ambition for 1.5°C” campaign. This campaign is headed by the United Nations Global Compact, We Mean Business coalition*1, and the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)*2, which aims to reduce global temperature increases due to global warming to less than 1.5°C from pre-industrial levels and to achieve virtually zero GHG emissions by 2050. It calls on companies to set GHG reduction targets based upon scientific evidence. Currently, approximately 300 company’s top management have expressed their support.
In March of this year, Ricoh updated its environmental targets in light of changes in global trends regarding global warming by revising its GHG (greenhouse gas) reduction target for its own corporation emissions from 30% to 63% in 2030, as compared to 2015, and were certified under the SBT initiative’s new standard of 1.5°C target.
Climate change is one of the most pressing social issue facing our global society. Ricoh will continue to promote thorough energy conservation activities and actively use renewable energy in-house and demonstrate leadership towards the realization of a zero-carbon society through active participation in international initiatives.

*2 The SBTi is a joint initiative of CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute, and the World Wildlife Fund that aims to enable leading companies to set ambitious and meaningful corporate greenhouse gas reduction targets.
